What is the Scottsdale Center for the Arts?

The Scottsdale Center for the Arts is a performing arts center that presents a variety of programs encompassing jazz, dance, theater and classical music and includes experiences and interactions with artists and speakers. Click here to view a calendar of events.

What is a presenter?

A Presenting Organization (often referred to as a "presenter") works to facilitate exchanges between artists and audiences through creative, educational and performance opportunities. Rather than having a resident company, the Scottsdale Center for the Arts books nationally touring artists. They are different from producing organizations (such as opera, theater companies, dance companies and orchestras) which are responsible for the creation of an artistic work or assemble artists to perform as an ensemble for a performance. Adapted from the Association of Performing Arts Presenters.

There is more than just presenting performances.

  • Scottsdale Arts Festival
  • Native Trails
  • Sunday A'Ffair
  • Educational Outreach

Where? (What is a venue?)

  • Virginia G. Piper Theater
  • Stage 2
  • Scottsdale Center for the Arts Amphitheater
  • Theater 4301
  • Scottsdale Civic Center Mall

Who owns the Scottsdale Center for the Arts?

The Scottsdale Center for the Arts is owned by the City of Scottsdale and managed by the Scottsdale Cultural Council.

Why are some events not listed in the calendar on the website?

The Scottsdale Center for the Arts serves as a presenter as well as a venue. The Scottsdale Center of the Arts decides on about 100 performances each year that determine their fixed programming. The director of programming, Kathy Hotchner, chooses a wide variety of performances that serve as a unique niche for the Valley. The events not listed on the calendar are events that have been rented by an outside source.

How can I rent the Scottsdale Center for the Arts?

The venue can be rented for many occasions anytime the building is not being occupied. The Scottsdale Civic Center Mall can also be rented for any outdoor events. For more information on renting any facility, please contact Bob Fingermann at BobF@sccarts.org or click here.

How is the Scottsdale Center for the Arts supported (funded)?

Members, donors, corporate sponsors, visitors, volunteers, private foundations, grants, admissions, the City of Scottsdale , private and public donations all help support the Scottsdale Center for the Arts.

How can I get involved (help)?
