The family area of the Scottsdale Arts Festival is called Imagine Nation. Located on the north side of City Hall, this area is open throughout regular festival hours, and provides art projects and entertainment for children and their families. The family area activities and entertainment are free with festival admission.

This year’s theme is, Family Time/Family Fun

While enjoying time with the amazing members of our own family, the area offers a variety of sights, sounds, and hands-on art activities that engage participants in creative imagination.

On a brick path called The Family Walk and Talk, a comic actor (Mia Family) will interview visiting family members as they pass by. Through storytelling and comical interaction visitors are reminded that each family is unique and can be made up of all kinds of different people, each of whom play an important role in family member’s lives. We’ll learn important and educational information and spend quality family time, all while using our imaginations to have fun. Perfect for these tough economical times, we’ll explore ideas on how families can have great fun together without having to spend oodles of money.

At the art-project tables, (Imagination Stations) volunteers from several community groups will be involved in the designing of entertaining art projects, and will also assist children and their families to complete many fun art creations. Tentatively scheduled participating community groups are: Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Scottsdale Public Art Program, Boys and Girls Clubs of Scottsdale, Vista del Camino Community Center, Scottsdale Pride Commission and City of Scottsdale Parks and Recreation. This year’s projects will include: the creation of (Kraft Paper) Hats to wear and other engaging works of art that are guaranteed offer up fun, quality family time. Friday is recommended as a wonderful day for children’s groups, school groups, and for children and families with disabilities. Saturday and Sunday Dance Theater West will perform entertaining dances and invite family members (yes, Dad…you too) to join in the fun.
