The family area of the Scottsdale Latin Jazz Festival is called Peanut Butter & Latin Jam. Located on the north side of City Hall, Peanut Butter & Latin Jam is open during the Scottsdale Latin Jazz Festival. The family area provides art projects as well as entertaining and educational activities for children and their families. In conjunction with the City of Scottsdale ¡Celebratión Comunitaria! presented by Scottsdale Human Relations Commission and the Diversity Advisory Committee, the family area and activities are free with festival admission. Peanut Butter & Latin Jam explores the exciting world and roots of Latin jazz through a variety of sights, sounds and activities.
Walk down Latin Jazz Lane and learn about the role this colorful music plays in the world. Children and their families can also enjoy fun and educational booths presented by the City of Scottsdale Hispanic Heritage, ¡Celebratión Comunitaria!
At the art-project tables, volunteers from several community groups offer entertaining hands-on art projects that engage participants’ creative imaginations. Volunteers will assist children and their families to complete these fun art creations. Tentatively scheduled participating community groups are: Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Scottsdale Public Art Program, Boys and Girls Clubs of Scottsdale, Vista Del Camino Community Center, City of Scottsdale Parks and Recreation Department and the Paiute International Club. Projects will include the creation of colorful paper Mamboing Mariposa Puppets and other engaging works of art that are guaranteed to delight all ages. Saturday and Sunday, teens from the Paiute International Club will be teaching families how to do the Macarena dance throughout the day.
