Presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, the first Scottsdale Latin Jazz Festival & Hispanic Heritage Celebration will bring the sounds, rhythms and flavors of Latin America to the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall and Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts on Nov. 13–15. The festival is sponsored by American Express, Hensley and SRP Earthwise Energy.

Festival admission is $10 per person ($15 after 5 p.m.) and free for children 12 and under. Single tickets for the Ximena Sariñana kick-off concert on Nov. 13 are $28, and tickets for the Arturo Sandoval concert on Nov. 14 are $55 through (480) 994-ARTS (2787) or www.scottsdaleperformingarts.org. An exhilarating celebration of Latin music, dance and culture, the Scottsdale Latin Jazz Festival & Hispanic Heritage Celebration will showcase top Latin artists from Brazil, Cuba, Mexico and the United States, from the legendary jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval to rising stars Claudia Villela, Tiempo Libre and Ximena Sariñana and Arizona’s own Cascabel, Cinco de Moio, Jaleo, Powerdrive and Rakata. Visitors will enjoy continuous live music and entertainment on two stages; the Peanut Butter & Latin Jam family area featuring creative activities for children and community dance lessons on Argentine tango, salsa and cha-cha-cha; arts and educational exhibits; and a Latin mercado offering delicious Latin-inspired cuisine, beverages and more. Inside, the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts’ new Virginia G. Piper Theater will host a Latin Ballroom Dance Master Class at noon on Nov. 15 with Ron Montez, internationally known Latin dance champion and co-host of the PBS Championships Ballroom Dance Program.

FEATURED PERFORMERS
The Scottsdale Latin Jazz Festival kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, with an outdoor concert with Mexican singer-songwriter Ximena Sariñana, who has taken the music world by storm with her sultry vocals and inspired fusion of jazz, blues, pop and hip-hop. Other featured performers include Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, who will perform in the new Virginia G. Piper Theater at 8 p.m. on Nov. 14, and Miami-based Tiempo Libre, one of the hottest young Latin bands today, who will perform outside in the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall Amphitheater, also at 8 p.m. on Nov. 14. The festival will conclude on Nov. 15 with an outdoor performance starting at 3:30 p.m. with the Claudia Villela Group, comprised of Brazilian singer Claudia Villela and guitarist Ricardo Peixoto.

SNEAK-PREVIEW CONCERT
Part celebration, part art exhibit, part music and beer festival and all environmentally friendly, Green Street Scottsdale will offer a taste of the Scottsdale Latin Jazz Festival with a free concert featuring Joe Garcia Y La Conexion and the ASU Latin Jazz Ensemble. The performance will take place on Nov. 12 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Marshall Way Bridge (between Southbridge and the Scottsdale Waterfront) in downtown Scottsdale. Held in honor of the 2009 Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, Green Street Scottsdale also will feature organic beers, restaurant promotions, artist demonstrations and exhibits celebrating the city’s green initiatives. LOCATION AND PARKING
Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts is located at 7380 E. Second St. in downtown Scottsdale, four blocks south of Indian School Road and three blocks east of Scottsdale Road. The amphitheater is located on the Scottsdale Civic Center Mall at 75th Street and Main Street. Free parking is available in the public parking garage located to the west of Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts and directly behind Los Olivos restaurant on Wells Fargo Avenue. Additional free parking is available at the Old Town Parking Corral at East Second Street and Brown Avenue and at the Civic Center Library parking garage located on Drinkwater Boulevard at East Second Street.
