La Gran Fiesta

A Celebration of Latin and Hispanic Cultures
Featuring La Dame Blanche

Sunday, Feb. 24, Noon–4 p.m.

About This Event

La Gran Fiesta — a special Sunday A’Fair — is a community celebration of Latin and Hispanic culture, with music, dance, food, art and local cultural groups sharing their passions and heritage.

Headlining the festival, from 2:30–4 p.m., is La Dame Blanche and her explosive mix of hip-hop, cumbia, dancehall and reggae. Cuban singer, flautist and percussionist Yaite Ramos Rodriguez (aka La Dame Blanche) is the daughter of Jesús “Aguaje” Ramos — the trombonist and artistic director for the Buena Vista Social Club — and traces her musical roots to Latin jazz and Afro-Cuban sounds. The music of La Dame Blanche is a story of feminine strength, a vision of struggle and a message of friendship and harmony fused with traditional rhythms and urban contemporary influences. Before each show, Rodriguez summons the spirits of Santeria — her Afro-Cuban religion — with a glass of rum left backstage, necklaces, white flowers and a pristine turban.
