The EVE Project
Join us for a talk with the Janet Eilber, artistic director of Martha Graham Dance Company, Liz Lerman, choreographer, ASU Professor, and MacArthur fellow, Fran Cohen, artistic director of Center Dance Ensemble and Beth Lessard, professor emerita, former chair of the ASU Department of Dance. The conversation will be moderated by Rose Weitz, sociologist and ASU professor of women and gender studies and will touch on the company’s new work and signature pieces that will be performed at the public performance of “The EVE Project” on Saturday, Nov. 10.
“The EVE Project” performance celebrates the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which gave women the right to vote. Audiences will experience these incredible dance movements from the company whose founder created modern dance. This special program features a wide range of female choreographers, from the first iterations of modern dance to contemporary superstars. Guests will experience three of Graham’s signature classic pieces: “The Dark Meadow Suite,” “Ekstasis” and “Errand into the Maze,” all stunning Graham masterworks, tell diverse narratives of women searching for connection, self-discovery and empowerment. Additionally, this program will feature new works choreographed by Bulareyaung Pagarlava, Nicolas Paul and Larry Keigwin , “Lamentation Variations.”
