No Blue Memories: The Life of Gwendolyn Brooks
StartFebruary 16, 20197:30 pm

About This Event

This multi-media experience tells the life story of Gwendolyn Brooks, one of Chicago’s most beloved figures — an icon, a poet laureate and a Pulitzer Prize winner. Brooks, who died in 2000 at 83, also was a treasured educator and mentor to countless writers and children.

Weaving together poetry, storytelling, sound design, original music and striking visuals, No Blue Memories explores Brooks’s hometown and how she navigated identity, craft and politics over the course of one of the most remarkable careers in American literary history. The performance combines intricate paper puppetry, actors working in shadow and an original score.
