Live & Local Fridays
One of the Valley’s hottest bands, Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra delivers an earth-shattering mix of jazz, funk, soul and African rhythms. This 16-person ensemble, affectionately known as PAO, has played a variety of venues throughout the Phoenix area, from concert halls and street fairs to fashion shows and fundraisers, sharing the stage with musical icons like George Clinton and The Roots. Singer Camille Sledge (the daughter of Sister Sledge’s Debbie Sledge) brings a dynamic and captivating stage presence to PAO’s performances. Mixing classic Afrobeat music with original material, PAO melds an eclectic heritage with elements of their chosen genre, a style that combines traditional West African sounds with American funk and jazz influences, chanted vocals and complex percussion.
